Harris Harvey Gallery: Lightness Piercing The Dark

Lightness Piercing the Dark
Lightness Piercing the Dark is a collaborative performance with dancer Jean Jung, poet Rose
Ramm, and pianist Dave Loy, in response to the featured artworks of Carole Barrer and Rebecca Luncan. Moving throughout the gallery, Jung will engage the audience through dance that connects energetically to the artwork while Ramm recites soothing poetic verses, reflecting the natural beauty explored in the paintings. Jung's dance style integrates classical ballet and modern dance training as well as postmodern influences and Korean shamanic traditions, offering a layered aesthetic experience. Ramm's poetry moves with simple grace over gritty natural terrain. Loy will weave a piano sound support structure and create character voices in their own right, masterfully timed and phrased. Together, the performing artists will engage in a multi modal conversation with the visual artwork, all five artists resounding in rich shades and brushstrokes, evoking space and landscape contrasted with the finest details of petals, feathers, and wings. The special performance was conceived for the Art + Culture Week in Seattle, September 2024.
