Recology at Mutuus Studio: Closing reception artist talk with Kalina Winska and Margie Livingston

For the past four months, Livingston and Winska have worked with a variety of materials culled from the waste stream that passes daily through Recology’s Material Recovery Facility and the city’s North Transfer Station. The path that unfolded has proven circuitous and filled with surprise, as the artists—both of whom come from a practice steeped in painting—found themselves drawn to the dimensionality of metal, amongst a host of other things. From industrial, steel cables to artfully crushed cookie tins and flattened fans, objects both banal and extraordinary have been melted, painted, printed, fused, and alchemized. The resulting bodies of work are distinctive in their approach and breadth of material, but resonate with a shared sense of playfulness and the utilization of chance, as well as a sincere inquisitiveness to unearth the layered meanings and histories whispered by each piece. Final exhibition of work by 2024 Recology King County artists in residence Margie Livingston and Kalina Winska. Titled "Gleanings," the exhibit showcases works created during a four month period during which artists were given access to scavenge materials from sites such as Recology's Material Recovery Facility and the North Transfer Station. By incorporating a range of genre-defying techniques, each artist has breathed new life into the most mundane and extraordinary objects come hear the artists speak about their work during the closing reception on September 14, 1-5pm (artist talk at 2pm)
